When asked about his motivation for creating the site, web developer Philip Murphy said, "I was really tired of having to tie my dog to a tree while I went in to get a cup of coffee or had to use the restroom somewhere. Some friends of mine expressed similar sentiments so I thought it would be great to create a site where visitors could share dog-friendly locations with each other."
